Baskets Hanky

$20.00

This Baskets hanky is screen printed by hand from original paper cutting art, featuring an array of baskets and the things we keep in them.

This piece is essentially a tour of some of the baskets, tools, tchotchkes, dried plants, and useful and beloved objects of my life. In making it I was nerdily very inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s essay “The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction.” ULG brings a lovely critique of our culture’s overuse of hero journeys and conflict/conquest centered narratives, both in our myth and our media, and offers that perhaps instead the (often small) things we carry with us (in both figurative and literal baskets) are the meaningful substance of life, and where the interesting stories are.

The hankies are approximately 22”x22,” and are printed on 100% cotton bandanas made it the US in two color ways: light blue hanky/dark blue ink, and natural hanky/brown ink.

Each hanky is made by hand, and so each one is unique and may have small variances from the prints pictured.
